Network and Collaboration
The Adult Education Association has been establishing linkages and co-operating with government institutions and other Non-Governmental Organisations.  It is a founding member of the International Council of Adult Education and of the Caribbean Council of Adult Education.  It is also a founding member of the Guyana Forum for Lifelong Learning which was established in October, 2000. 
Our Support
The Adult Education Association has within recent years received support from Partners in Rural Development through the Building Community Capacity Project (BCCP) in a number of areas including capacity building and programme outreach.  It has also received support from Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, the Canadian Executive Service Organisation, individual citizens and the local Private Sector.  It has also received assistance from the Government of Guyana in the form of an annual subvention, albeit at a decreasing level and through the use of some school buildings after hours
Only recently, the United Nations Population Fund has collaborated with the Adult Education Association of Guyana in conducting a Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Gender Education Programme sensitizing individuals country wide on the various aspects.

Organisation Background

The Adult Education Association of Guyana, Inc., M.S (AEA) is an independent Not-for-Profit, voluntary, Non-Governmental Organisation established in 1957.  The Association has boast of its experiences and remarkable track record in Adult Education in Guyana.  AEA was the pioneer of Adult Education in Guyana and for several decades was the premier agency delivering non-formal education and affordable skills training.  The Association was awarded a national honour in 1998 in appreciation of its work.

The Association was registered in 1999, as a Not-For-Profit company under the Companies Act; No.29/1991.

The Adult Education Association of Guyana takes action to eradicate adult illiteracy and assist adults to develop their basic education, improve their technical or professional skills as well as to provide them with opportunities for the full development of their personalities.

Over time, more than two hundred thousand (200.000) persons have successfully completed Adult Education programmes delivered by us.

Our Certificates are recognized by employers locally, regionally and Internationally.

Our Mission Statement
The Adult Education Association of Guyana, Inc., M.S. seeks to provide through the Non-Formal system, the Education and training which the Guyanese people need and desire, which have not been met by the formal system, to render them efficient participants in the development process of the Nation.





Programme Outreach

The Adult Education Association currently has programmes offering courses in Georgetown and the Demerara Region. Centres have been established in Rosignol, West Coast Berbice and Lower Corentyne. There are also centres in Bartica, West Coast and West Bank of Demerara.


Our Programmes

Head Office of  The Adult Education Association Headquarters offers in different parts of the country courses in seven (7) programmes Viz:

(1)     Remedial and Adult Learners - offering Basic Literacy and Numeracy.

(2)  CSEC and General Certificate of Education (GCE). Close to two thousand (2000) students per year participate in this education programme.

(3)     Women’s Outreach Programme(WOP) offering a wide range of skills training courses.  Among these are Care for the Elderly and Child Care Management programmes which attract a large clientele.  The number of beneficiaries range from one thousand(1000) to two thousand five hundred (2500) annually.

(4)     The Professional Training Programme viz:
                 Principles of Personnel Management and Principles of Communication in Management.

(5)     The Technical/Vocational Programme
Radio, Television Electronics and Refrigeration.

(6)     Information Technology
This is designed for training persons in computerization.

(7)     The Upgrading Programme
Is a customized programme for business and government clients who want trainees be exposed to higher professional training and examinations.

Programme Priorities

a              Review and revise current courses, improve course quality and delivery and integrate literacy and social life skills.

b              Expand programmes to include new Techvoc courses and extend them to districts outside of Georgetown, West Berbice and lower Corentyne.

c              Design and implement course delivery to cater for the needs and conditions of women

d              Extend Women Outreach Programmes(WOP) and Information technology programmes to semi urban and rural areas.

e              Investigate and launch apprenticeship scheme
